Why Get Certified?

Whether you’re just starting the journey or well on the path of a successful health information management (HIM) professional career, AHIMA certification in HIM, coding, healthcare privacy and security, or health data analysis is your guide to career enhancement, increased salary, and greater success in your chosen profession. AHIMA credentials are earned through a challenging program of examinations, education, and experience, and maintained through continuous review and education.

Types of Credentials?

AHIMA offers a range of credentials to meet every HIM professionals need. Below, is a list the credentials currently offered by AHIMA:

  • RHIA
  • RHIT
  • CCA
  • CCS
  • CCS-P
  • CDIP
  • CHDA
  • CHPS
  • CHTS

Credential/Certification Maintenance

In order to recertify through AHIMA, credentialed individuals are required to comply with the following continuing education standards as set forth by the CCHIIM.

If you have the following credential(s), you must earn the designated amount of CEUs:

  • CCA – 20 CEUs, including two mandatory annual coding self-reviews (self-assessments)
  • CCS – 20 CEUs, including two mandatory annual coding self-reviews (self-assessments)
  • CCS-P – 20 CEUs, including two mandatory annual coding self-reviews (self-assessments)
  • RHIT – 20 CEUs
  • RHIA – 30 CEUs
  • CDIP – 30 CEUs
  • CHDA – 30 CEUs
  • CHPS – 30 CEUs
  • CHP* – 30 CEUs
  • CHS* – 30 CEUs

*AHIMA no longer offers these exams.
