Most Outstanding Student
At an awards ceremony held at the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus on May 12, 2006, Sharon Glowinski Chisholm was awarded the 2006 Mississippi Health Information Management Association Outstanding Health Information Management Student Award. At the same ceremony she was also recognized as the recipient of the Dean's List Award, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Excellence in Coding Award, and the AMSOUTH Bank Health Information Management Scholastic Award. She has been initiated into Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Eta and Phi Kappa Phi.

Originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania she moved to Mississippi four years ago following a very successful and rewarding 20-year career in the United States Air Force. Ms Chisholm's military Healthcare Management career led her to various assignments in Texas, Virginia, England, Saudi Arabia and Louisiana. She retired in the grade of Master Sergeant in July 2002. Ms Chisholm holds an Associate in Applied Science degree in Health Care Management from the Community College of the Air Force, and an Associate in Arts degree from Holmes Community College. She currently resides in Lexington, Mississippi with her husband Don. She is the daughter of Ms Joan Glowinski of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and the daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Red) Chisholm of Lexington, Mississippi.

Most Outstanding Student
Tommi Smith, an HIT student at Hinds Community College, was recently recognized at the 19th Annual Higher Education Appreciation Day, Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) by the Mississippi Legislature. This Appreciation Day is to honor the academically talented students and faculty members who have made outstanding contributions in promoting academic excellence. Tommi was chosen as the 2005-2006 HEADWAE Outstanding Student Honoree for Hinds Community College.

Some of Tommi's academic accomplishments include maintaining a 4.0 GPA; President's List; Phi Theta Kappa Honor's Society; Alpha Beta Gamma Honor's Society; National Dean's List; Who's Who Among Students in American Community and Junior Colleges; Most Outstanding Student; and recipient of an AHIMA FORE scholarship. Tommi will graduate from the HIT program in May and will begin graduate school with the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN this summer.

Rudman Presented Healthcare Visionary Award by Mississippi Blood Services

Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) recently presented Dr. Bill Rudman with its Healthcare Visionary Award at a ceremony held at the Hilton in Jackson. Rudman's involvement in numerous grants involving Mississippi Blood Services and the University of Mississippi Medical Center Patient Safety and Surveillance Center where they have actively developed and submitted grant proposals to fund innovative fund models gained him recognition from the organization. He is a professor at University of Mississippi Medical Center's Department of Health Information Management and deputy director of the Patient Safety Center and Director of the Clinical Health Sciences graduate program.
